Purgatory's terrain is evenly split — 23% beginner, 51% intermediate, 26% advanced/expert. The resort is especially well-regarded for its intermediate cruisers and its excellent beginner terrain (ideal for families and first-timers).
Expert terrain: The Legends area features the most challenging runs, including the steep and deep Engineer and Styx. Backcountry access is available through the Legends lift.
Ski season: Typically late November through early April. Peak powder season is January–February.
Purgatory is just 25 miles north of Durango on US-550 — about a 30-minute drive. The base village has lodging, rentals, lessons, and several restaurants. Many visitors stay in Durango and commute daily (free parking at the resort).
